"the temporary marriage" part of my previous post has still occupied my mind!

i was thinking no matter how much most of the clerics, esp. the extreme hardliners, have tried to impose the idea of
temporary marriage on ordinary people these past years; they've been kinda failed every time. they've been rejected by not only the intellectuals but the very ordinary people as well.
(not to mention that the issue is brought up recklessly enough from time to time, just to test the overall reaction of the people!)

i mean many of even the most religious people can't accept to have their daughters/sons get involved in such a "shame". (yes, it's still a taboo among the people!)

temporary marriage hasn't been yet one of those cultural norms they've tried to inject into the religious/superstitious structure of the social/individual culture in iran.

however, i think what they are trying to do is first to "normalize" it for the general public or at least make people "desensitize" to it, then simply "legalize" it when it comes to it, as if it's not but a great favor to people.

it reminds me of the time when people here were asking one another: does the govt. try to "
legalize" marijuana?! what the hell ...??!!!
and another would reply: no, come on! they are
just "decriminiz"ing it! well, just carrying a small amount of it. u know some people have to use it as a medication...
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

me... here and there...

here is the thing: two of my classes are damn boring and kinda useless!
i wanna register in some others instead, but they are already full!!!
i am so in trouble!
and i am trying to find a part-time job as well...whereas even on campus, you need to have some contacts so that you can get one!
------------
radiofarda has two bits of news that are thought-provoking:
1- a woman can't own a restaurant in iran!
2- the iranian Parilament Commision on Social Issues is going to
"legalize" temporary marriage!!

marriage itself is not but an agreement, written on a piece of paper, although the issues like custody of kids and ...after divorce can be lawfully followed thereby (not to mention the marriage laws are weird in iran!)...

however, it seems they can't stop the huge number of current young generation from getting involved in relationships and...well, they need to religiously legitimize them!!!
funny, eh?!

btw, the weblogs are all so quiet about Ganji and other prisoners of thought in iran!! and the news are trickling in, very scarcely!!... why?!

blood-sucking business

only two textbooks for 214.00 $CDN !!?
and i have to buy two more books and CDs for my other courses!!!
and the irony is i'm broke these days! :D
our school's bookstore has monipolized the buying/selling of books, including even the used ones!
and, it's quite obvious that some of these "fair" faculty members have sort of an agreement with some of these publishers.
you know why?! they simply set the newest edition of the book for the semester's reading, while there is not much of a big diff. b/w this edition and the latest one which was out for reading only a semster ago!
then the poor students will have to spend hours and hours to find the differences and photocopy the new materisals/pages in the new edition; and this is usually impossible, becoz the school work load is heavier than letting you waste your time like this.
plus, the students who wanted to sell their used books for a reasonable price, won't find any buyers!
Abebooks turned me down today :(
i checked them on
amazon, but they were very pricey!
i hope i can find a reliable supplier with good offers on
ebay!

it's a good experience being broke (this is almost the 3rd time in my life!) but not when your blood is sucked by publishers and faculties like this!!
maybe that's why now i am enjoying so much listening to
black-eyed peas' Anxiety (with Papa Roach) .

confession !?

from among movies my brother has sent me, Mehrjouyee's "
Mom's Guests" (Mehman-e Maman) has been the one i have not only enjoyed watching but have been thinking how the overall framework of the culture belonging to the iranians with lower education and low-rank jobs has not changed much, not at least since the wartime when Mehrjouyee made "The Lodgers" (Ejareneshin-ha).
the movie is based on a story written by Moradi Kermani and has traces of sadness, poverty and sympathy. the director, however, knowing the depth of all these, features the very details of this culture, which i find quite rooted in the bases of the last 250 years of highs and lows in iran.
there is more about it (in persian) here.

i should confess i laughed a lot watching it, and enjoyed this precision in showing the details. although i was also thinking how we can expect these people to practice logic and prudence in much bigger and more important issues like deciding about the future of the country!!!
